The obverse features the faces of three Americans from all branches of the armed services. The reverse shows an American soldier engaged in battle on the beach of a Pacific Island. The bronze medal has a diameter of 1.205 inches, a weight of 11.34 grams, and a composition of 92% copper, 8% nickel. The obverse features a figure of Liberation. The reverse shows several inscriptions, separated by a palm branch and surrounded by the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1941 . 1945". Minted in 1993 (but dated 1991-1995) this historic half dollar commemorates the 50th anniversary of U.S. involvement in World War II. Designed by George Klauba, the inspiring obverse shows the faces of an airman, sailor and soldier in the foreground, with a large "V" for victory behind and a B-17 bomber flying above. Bill J. Leftwich's detailed reverse depicts a Pacific Islands battle scene.
