The obverse depicts a design modeled after the famed Aztec Calendar stone, originally carved from hardened lava in the late 1400s and dedicated to Tonatiuh, the sun god. Cuauhtmoc, the last Aztec Emperor of Tenochtitlan, is shown on the reverse along with a statement of weight and purity.
