This large 5 oz 99.9% pure copper coin recalls the legend of Iktomi, the trickster spirit of knowledge. Measuring 65 mm in diameter, with a thickness of 6 mm, it comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, and features a proof-like finish with satin motif. The reverse shows a Lakota elder seeking guidance from Iktomi, who appears in the form of a spider. According to legend, Iktomi presented the elder with a dreamcatcher meant to protect his people from life's bad influences while allowing the good influences to pass through to the soul. Obverse features the Mesa Grande seal above a soaring eagle. Officially recognized as a sovereign nation by the U.S. government, the Mesa Grande are legally authorized to issue their own commemorative coins. Mintage is limited to 1,500.
