Description

The Celebrating the Papacy Coin and Stamp set from the Morgan Mint honors 2000 years of the Papacy, and the election of Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI. It features an official stamp issued by the Philatelic Office of the Vatican City. This stamp is canceled with the official April 24, 2005, Vatican postmark - the exact date of Pope Benedict XVI's official inauguration. The set also includes the official 50 Euro Cent coin issued by Ratzinger's native Germany. Issued between 2002 and 2006, this gold-colored copper-alloy (or Nordic Gold) coin measures 24.25 mm in diameter and weighs 7.8 grams. The obverse depicts the Brandenburg Gate, symbol of the division of Germany and its subsequent unification. The reverse shows a map symbolizing the gathering of the fifteen nations of the European Union.
