This historic 90% silver quarter is from the second commemorative issue produced by the U.S. Mint. It was created for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago at the request of the Board of Lady Managers. Known as the Isabella quarter, its obverse depicts Queen Isabella I of Spain. The reverse shows a kneeling woman with distaff and spindle as symbols of women's industry. The coin was designed by Charles E. Barber, whose classic Liberty Head motif debuted on the dime, quarter and half dollar the year before.
