This historic 90% silver half dollar is considered by many to be the most beautiful U.S. commemorative coin. It was struck to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Texas independence. The obverse shows a proud eagle holding an oak branch before a large five-pointed star. On the reverse, winged Victory kneels between two medallions. One bears the portrait of General Sam Houston. The other depicts Texas founder Stephen Austin.
