Description
A genuine 1900 Lafayette Commemorative Silver Dollar Coin, graded and certified AU 58 Details by ANACS. Contains Silver. Cleaned
The 90% silver Lafayette dollar was the first commemorative dollar struck by the U.S. Mint. Issued in 1900, it was also the first U.S. coin authorized to bear the portrait of a U.S. president. The obverse of this historic coin shows George Washington and the marquis de Lafayette - who helped the America colonies win the War of Independence. The reverse depicts a statue of Lafayette on a horse. Sale of these coins helped fund a similar statue given to Paris as a gift from the grateful American people.
