1852 New York $5 Hungarian Fund Note, in Uncirculated Condition. Printed in New York City before the Civil War, this $5 note was issued by the Central Hungarian Committee of New York to raise money for Hungary's fight for independence from the Austrian Empire. The hand numbered note is hand signed by Louis Kossuth, who as Governor of Hungary, led the fight for freedom during the unsuccessful 1848-1849 Hungarian Revolution, and then lived for a time in the U.S. where he continued his hope for an independent Hungary.
