U.S. Women Quarters (2022-2025): A Brief History

Each coin features a new design of George Washington on the obverse, while reverse designs by artists including Eric David Custer, Craig Campbell, Chris Costello, and Renata Gordon showcase symbolic elements representing each woman’s life and legacy—from the seven-pointed star honoring Wilma Mankiller to the "Voto para la Mujer" inscription celebrating Nina Otero Warren’s suffrage work in New Mexico.

In total, 20 American women were featured on unique quarter designs throughout the program's four-year run.

2022

  • Wilma Mankiller: First woman elected principal chief of the Cherokee Nation
  • Nina Otero Warren: Suffragist, female superintendent of Santa Fe public schools
