Azes ruled Bactria (present-day Afghanistan) and enjoyed great influence. Even 25 years after his death, coins still carried his name. Most of Azes coinage was issued before the birth of Christ, and stayed in circulation until at least A.D. 30. One of the Three Wise Men, Gaspar, was sent by Azes to the manger where Christ was born.
