Description

A genuine 350-353 AD Magnentius, Roman Empire, Centenionalis Ancient Roman Imperial Coin, Lyons, with Rosette-diademed obverse, and Holding Victory and Labarum reverse, in NMS Near Mint State Condition. Bronze composition

Magnentius became emperor of the West in A.D. 350. He was defeated by rival emperor Constantius II and committed suicide in A.D. 353. Coins of Magnentius wearing a diadem on the obverse like the Constantine family are scarce. The reverse is the emperor standing holding victory on a globe and labarum w/Chi-Rho on it. Reverse legend is FELICITAS REIPVBLICE. This coin was minted in Lyons and is part of the Bridgnorth Shropshire Hoard found in England in 2007.
