Description

A genuine 238-244 AD Gordian III and Tranquillina, Mesembria, Thrace Ancient Roman Provincial Coin, with Nemesis holding rod & bridle reverse, in VF Very Fine Condition. Bronze composition

This popular ruler became Caesar at 13, and Emperor a year later. In A.D. 241 he married Tranquillina, daughter of his trusted advisor. Almost immediately, Gordian and his advisor set out to halt an invasion by the Sassanian king Shapur I. Although Gordian reclaimed territory, before he captured the Sassanian capital, he mysteriously died.
