Description
The 2017 Louisiana issue of the popular Jamul Nation silver dollar series, featuring Native American tribes and indigenous animals of the 50 states, depicts a member of the Natchez tribe on the obverse and the iconic black bear on the reverse. The Natchez people were prominent farmers, hunters and fishermen in the Lower Mississippi Valley until a series of wars against the French in the early 1700s forced their migration westward. The black bear is the state mammal of Louisiana. Struck in 1 oz. of 99.9% pure silver, it features impressively detailed frosted images against gleaming mirrorlike surfaces. The Jamul tribe is recognized as a sovereign nation by the U.S. government and is legally authorized to issue its own commemorative coins. Coin only. No original mint packaging or certificate of authenticity
