Description
This set contains all five issues in the U.S. Mint's Westward Journey Nickel Series, released between 2004 and 2006 to commemorate the bicentennials of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expedition. The first four coins issued in 2004 and 2005 feature unique one-year only reverses depicting the Peace Medal, Keelboat, American Bison and Ocean in View. The obverse of the 2005 issues were also updated with a new profile image of Thomas Jefferson. In 2006 the reverse returned to the classic Monticello design but featured yet another redesigned obverse with a forward-looking image of Thomas Jefferson, the first of a United States President facing forward on a coin. All five coins come in Uncirculated Mint State condition, and will come with either a Philadelphia (P) or Denver (D) mint mark.
