A genuine 1966 SMS Washington Quarter Coin, in Uncirculated Mint State Condition. Copper-Nickel Clad composition. From the U.S. Mint Special Mint Set. During 1965-1967 the U.S. Mint did not produce proof sets and instead, produced Special Mint Sets or Special Strike coins that were struck with polished dies and blanks. These coins boast higher-quality finishes than seen on typical uncirculated coins, but were generally not struck multiple times or polished to the same degree as proof coins.
The obverse of this Washington quarter bears John Flanagan's familiar portrait of America's first president. Its reverse features his depiction of a proud eagle with spread wings, perched on a bundle of arrows above two olive branches.
