Description
A genuine 1966 SMS Lincoln Memorial Cent Penny Coin, graded and certified MS 68 RD by NGC. Copper Alloy composition. From the U.S. Mint Special Mint Set. During 1965-1968 the U.S. Mint did not produce Proof Sets, instead producing Special Mint Sets or Special Strike coins that were struck in specially prepared planchets. The coins looked much better than circulation strike coins but not as sharp as proof struck coins.
The Lincoln cent was redesigned in 1959 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The obverse continued to depict Lincoln's portrait, while Frank Gasparro's new reverse depicted the Lincoln Memorial.
