A genuine 1576 Netherlands Silver Lion Daalder, Holland, DAV-8838, graded and certified AU 53 by NGC. Also known as a Leeuwendaalder or Lion Dollar, this large silver coin measures 40 mm in diameter, weighs 27.68 grams, and is composed of 75% silver. The obverse features an armored knight, with crest decorated with a plume, with a shield in front of him bearing the arms of Holland. The reverse displays the Rampant Lion, standing on its hind legs, with its forepaws raised to strike. The Leeuwendaalder was one of the most popular silver coins used in international trade for almost two centuries. It circulated in North America where it gave the name to the American Dollar.
