The second issue in the Titans of American Innovation series honors Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-American whose invention of a transformer that could easily convert different voltages - alternating currents - revolutionized the electrical system we use today. Tesla immigrated to the U.S. in 1884. In 1893, Tesla's AC current was used to light the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago which led to a winning contract to make the first water-powered machinery at Niagara Falls.
