Description

A genuine 1935 Hudson New York Sesquicentennial Commemorative Silver Half Dollar Coin, graded and certified MS 64 by PCGS. Contains 90% Silver

This 90% silver half dollar commemorated the 150th anniversary of the founding of Hudson, New York. It was designed by Chester Beach, creator of the 1925 Monroe half dollar and 1935 Lexington-Concord half dollar. The obverse is adapted from the seal of the city. It shows Neptune astride a whale, with a mermaid blowing a conch shell at left. A banner above reads ET DECUS ET PRETIUM RECTI (“Both the Honor and Reward of the Righteous”). The reverse depicts the Half Moon, flagship of the town’s namesake, explorer Henry Hudson. Just 10,008 of these coins were issued – some 4,000 fewer than the number of Hudson residents at the time.
